Colton Hall Birthday Celebration
Featuring

A Conversation with Walter Colton

On Saturday, March 8, 2008, Colton Hall will celebrate its 159th Birthday. Join Walter Colton, as portrayed by Kevin Hanstick, and historian Jim Conway as they have a conversation about the building of Colton Hall.   Constructed by Alcalde Colton between 1847 and 1849, Colton Hall became the site of the California Constitutional Convention. Learn why it was built in the Federalist style and discover the resources that Colton utilized to complete the project. The discussion will also center on Monterey following the American occupation in 1846, and events, such as the Gold Rush, that lead to the convention and statehood.

Following the conversation, Birthday Cake and Punch will be served and Hanstick and Conway will be available to answer questions about the period.  This program is free to the public.
