 CITY OPENS NEW OFFICES AT 735 PACIFIC
Green Building Minimizes Carbon Footprint

Monterey, CA - The City of Monterey is opening new offices at 735 Pacific Street on Wednesday, May 14th. Several key City departments are moving to the new location, which will be known as "The City of Monterey Administrative Services Center." The move means some public business with the City will now be conducted from 735 Pacific, such as:

  • business license applications and renewals, and dog licenses through the Revenue Division;

  • City of Monterey job postings and job applications, and;

  • volunteer programs

735 Pacific Street is the former Monterey Convalescent Hospital, which the City bought and converted into a "green" office building. Features, such as recycled building materials, skylights and a "green" roof help minimize the building's carbon footprint.  By installing a cool roof material, the thermal radiation reflected by traditional roofing is reduced.  Reducing the City's carbon footprint is one of the goals of the UN Environmental Accords and Mayors' Climate Protection Act signed by the City of Monterey last summer.  A "green building" ordinance is expected to come before the City Council for consideration later this month. The ordinance would create a checklist of green building practices for new construction and remodels.

The Administrative Services Center at 735 Pacific Street is the new home of the City of Monterey's Finance Department, Human Resources Department and Information Resources Department, which manages the City's information technology infrastructure. Approximately 40 employees will be housed in the building.
