On Friday, February 9, 2024, at approximately 8:22 p.m., Monterey Police Department (MPD) officers were dispatched to the Del Monte Shopping Center parking lot, in reference to a hit-and-run injury accident involving a vehicle that hit a juvenile on a bicycle. The involved vehicle fled the scene prior to police arrival. Witnesses provided MPD officers with the identification of the suspect and a description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run accident. MPD officers determined that the suspect worked as a security guard at the Del Monte Shopping Center, but was not on duty at the time of the incident. The investigation revealed that the suspect intentionally hit the juvenile victim with his vehicle because the victim and his friends refused to leave the Del Monte Shopping Center parking lot.
