On Sunday, April 7, 2024, at approximately 1:25 a.m., Monterey Police Department (MPD) officers were on foot on Alvarado and observed a green 1997 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck turn right from Alvarado onto Del Monte, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and broadcast it on the police radio. Another MPD officer located the vehicle in the left turn pocket from Del Monte to Municipal Wharf 2. The vehicle turned left onto Municipal Wharf 2 and the MPD Officer turned on their overhead lights to initiate a traffic stop at the foot of Wharf 2. The driver pulled to the right of the wharf and stopped. As the MPD officer approached the vehicle on foot, the truck fled northbound toward the end of the wharf at a high rate of speed.
