If you have only a short time to experience the history of Monterey for yourself, here are some suggestions. We've designed two self-guided tours that will guide you to some historic places. RE-ENACTMENT OF CALIFORNIA'S FIRST   CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION IN 1849
AT HISTORIC COLTON HALL

Historic Monterey Downtown Tour: Several important buildings along with the California History Room, located inside the Monterey Public Library, the heart of old Monterey. They provide the visitor with a chance to follow Monterey through its Mexican and early American periods.

Historic Monterey Waterfront Tour: This tour focuses on the tales and structures of the waterfront. Here you'll find one of the oldest government buildings in California. See how the Monterey Bay played such a big part in the making of Monterey.

Two-hour parking is available and the buildings are all in walking distance.
