Volunteer of the Year

Connie Kennedy

Connie began her service as a volunteer with the Monterey Police Department in April 2003.  She is the mother of two and works full time.  She holds an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies and a Certificate of Achievement in Administration of Justice.   Connie volunteers to assist the disabled, as well as pre-school children for a number of organizations in the area.  Even with this very busy schedule, she still has the time, energy and motivation to serve the Police Department and the citizens of Monterey.

Over her 5 years of service, Connie has volunteered 662 hours of her time.  She is a regular volunteer during special events, she routinely helps staff the lost children booth at the Monterey County Fair, and is always a big help volunteering for our bike rodeos and kids fingerprinting events.  Connie is an ambassador for the City of Monterey wherever she goes.  She can be counted on to find the positive in any situation.  She is always happy and easy going, with a smile and a kind word for everyone.

Connie spends every Tuesday working at the Farmers Market on Alvarado Street.  during each of these occasions, Connie works tirelessly trying to minimize the number of vehicles that are towed.  There are countless tourists, residents and local workers who have avoided having their cars towed because of Connie.  She walks shop to shop and door to door to remind people that the street is closed and that towing will begin shortly.  It is not uncommon to see people running to save their cars from the tow truck, after receiving a helpful reminder from her.  Some might say that in the big scheme of things, small things like this aren't that important - but that would be wrong.  That's because we are in the public service business.  The business of helping people and of doing good things for others whenever possible.  Connie embodies this philosophy in everything that she does as a volunteer for our Department.  She is truly a great representative of our Department and our City, and an indispensable and valued member of the Monterey Police Department team.

We are pleased to recognize and honor Connie Kennedy as the 2007 Volunteer of the Year for the Monterey Police Department.
