Chief  Shelby has been a member of the Monterey Police Department since 1979. During his many years of service to the community, Chief Shelby has held many challenging and exciting assignments, including Field Training Officer, Detective, Community Action Team Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. He was promoted to Deputy Chief in 1998. Since that time, he has managed both the Support Services Division (Investigations, Records, Property/Evidence, and Jail Operations), and the Field Operations (Patrol) Division.  In June 2007, Shelby was promoted to Chief of Police.
