Library Receives Literacy Grant
The Monterey Public Library has been awarded an Early Learning with Families (ELF) grant from the California State Library to expand efforts to reach out to families with young children and reinforce to adults the idea of the library as a community resource and literacy agent. Initially the grant funds will be used to provide additional early literacy training for library staff. The Monterey Public Library will then work cooperatively with the Monterey County Free Libraries to develop and distribute materials that promote storytimes for school readiness, adult literacy services, and the idea of libraries as resources for literacy experiences. For more information contact Youth Services Manager Karen Brown at 646-3744.
