Announcing the Annual "Bucks for Books" Campaign

The Library announces its annual "Bucks for Books" campaign. Between now and December 31, the Library hopes to reach its goal of raising $20,000 for the purchase of books, DVDs, CDs and other collections.

The Library's collections budget was cut almost 30% over the past four years and, in the current fiscal year, the Library has $55,000 less to spend on collections. Last year, the Library checked out 426,994 items, a number expected to increase in the current year.

A gift of $45 will buy at least three picture books, each one likely to be checked out at least 50 times. A $100 gift will buy at least four new books for teens and adults, each of which may be checked out an average of 20 times. $500 will buy a shelf full of over 20 books.

This year the Library is offering to "Bucks for Books" donors, an announcement card that may be given as a gift to someone special.

Donations by cash, check to the Library Trust Fund can be made in the Library, and credit card donations may be made in the Library or by phone. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Call 831.646.5669 or visit the Library at 625 Pacific Street, Monterey.
