Catch
the Reading Bug @ the Library
Summer's here and it's time to put away the
school books and read for the fun of it!
Kids of all ages are invited to set a summer
reading goal - it can be one book a week or one
hundred books a week - the choice is yours!
Then visit the Library to receive weekly prizes
for working toward your reading goal. In
addition to offering a world of books, the
Library will inspire you this summer with weekly
programs featuring poetry, puppets, music,
storytelling and special guests from the insect
world. At the end of the summer, we'll celebrate
with a big beach party complete with
entertainment and prizes. The summer reading
program is more than fun, research shows that
it's a great way retain the reading skills that
you built up during the school year. How cool is
that? Learn

Delight
in Summer Reading
Why should kids have all the fun? Summer
reading is for everyone! Make sure you
have a book along when relaxing on the
beach, waiting for a plane or lounging
in the backyard hammock. Taking a road
trip? The Library has books on CD to
listen to on the way. This summer the
Library is here to add a little spice to
your summer reading adventures with the
Adult Summer Reading Program. Write a
brief review of a book that you’ve
enjoyed during these summer months, and

Let
Your Voice be Heard!
In a democracy like ours, public
libraries provide information that voters need
to make their voices heard in the political
process. The Civic Information Center, located
just inside the Pacific Street entrance, is the
Library’s one-stop center for citizen
participation. With the presidential election
coming up in November, look for voter
registration forms, ballot pamphlets, and
information about the candidates and issues. The
Civic Information Center also has planning
documents, environmental impact reports, and
other local agency publications for public
review, as well as DVDs of Monterey City Council
and Planning Commission meetings. More election
and public policy information is linked to the
Civic Information
Center Web page.
