The Library offers more than 100,000 books, audio and videocassettes, DVDs, CDs and other materials for every age and interest. Look on this page for more information about what's inside the Library. If you don't see what you are interested in, ask a staff member at the Reference Services Desk or the Youth Services Desk. Selection of materials for all Library collections is based on Library Board of Trustees Policy 401: Collection Development.

• Youth Services Collections
  Youth Services collections serve babies to high school students. Board books, audio and videocassettes, DVDs, books on tape, cassette/book kits, paperbacks, and magazines are available along with picture books, fiction and nonfiction books. There are a few adult materials, primarily books about using children's literature and practical curriculum, in the Youth Services section. Most parenting resources may be found in the Adult Nonfiction section.

• Audio and Video
  You can choose from a wide variety of music and audiobooks on cassette and CD, as well as educational and fiction videos on VHS and DVD. Search the Catalog for titles, authors, composers, performers, subjects, etc. or click here for lists of audiobooks and videos in the PALS catalog.

• Local History Collection
  The California History Room contains a valuable and unique collection of books, selected magazine and newspaper articles, historical newspapers, maps, government documents, photographs and archival material pertaining to the City of Monterey and the Monterey Peninsula.  For an explanation of local history catalog locations, click here. • Local History Partners
  The Library has joined with the City of Monterey Museum and Cultural Arts Division and the Monterey History and Art Association to provide convenient access to local history materials. When you search for local history information in the Library Catalog, you may find helpful titles from Colton Hall Museum and Mayo Hayes O'Donnell Library.

• TeenZone
  All Young Adult fiction, non-fiction, magazines and other materials especially for teens is shelved in a separate area which includes study tables, two Internet workstations and a bulletin board with information of interest to teens.
