FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Monterey Public Library will present Hidden Memory: A Japanese American Journey with storyteller, Anne Shimojima on Friday, March 2, at 4 p.m., in the Library Community Room. The storyteller will perform the story of her family's time in an internment camp during WWII.

This performance is presented in partnership with the Japanese American Citizens League as part of California Reads; Searching for Democracy.  This intent of this project is to encourage the community to read the memoir Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and participate in activities and discussions focused on the book and issues related to the WWII internment of Japanese Americans. California Reads programs are made possible with support from Cal Humanities in partnership with the California Center for the Book.

Ages 10 - adults are invited to attend and admission is free. The Monterey Public Library is located at 625 Pacific Street, Monterey.  For more information call 831.646.3744 or visit www.monterey.org/library.
