The Monterey Public Library Bookmobile will bring a special program "The Book of Wonder/El Libray de las Maravillas", to two Bookmobile stops on Wednesday, June 13.  The first show will be at 2 p.m. at the La Mesa Village stop at The Tech Connection on Leahy and Farragut in Monterey.  The second show will be at 5 p.m. at the Montecito Park, on Montecito Avenue between Dela Vina and Ramona, in Monterey.  Ages 5-up are invited to attend and admission is free.  For more information call 831.646.3710 or see www.monterey.org/library.

The Monterey Public Library and Bookmobile will kick-off its annual Summer Reading Program on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., to encourage kids to read during their school break. Participants may sign up for the program, receive reading logs and enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day. There will be three performances of Astrowizard's Amazing Planetarium and Slide Show, crafts, shadow puppets, exhibits and snacks. There will also be summer reading activities for teens and adults.  The program will continue through July25, with prizes and weekly programs.  For more information call 831.646.3934 or see www.monterey.org/library.

Community Pharmacy Practice: An Untapped Resource Readily Available, a talk by Jasmine Chan, Pharm.D and Dana Gordon, Pharm.D. will be sponsored by the Friends of the Monterey Public Library and the Monterey Public Library Endowment Committee on Wednesday, May 30, at 6:30 p.m., in the Library Community Room.  The Pharmacists will address when to take medications, side affects and the many personalized medication advice that your local pharmacy has to offer.

The Monterey Public Library is seeking teen summer volunteers to help with the Summer Reading Program, Volunteers should enjoy working with children and must be at least 14 years old. This is an opportunity to gain workplace experience, earn required academic community service hours and build resumes for college. John Drennan, V.P. and Regional Planning Consultant of Fidelity Investments will speak on the topic of "Establishing and Maintaining Your Estate Plan" at the Monterey Public Library on Wednesday, May 16, at 4 p.m.  Mr. Drennan will discuss the basics of estate and gift taxes and other estate planning topics.

The Monterey Public Library will host a gathering of readers, scholars and first-hand witnesses for a discussion of the Japanese American experience during World War II and the questions is raises about democracy in America today, on Saturday, May 19, at 3 p.m.

Admission is free and no reservations are required.  This program is co-sponsored by the Library and the Monterey Peninsula Japanese American Citizens League.  California Reads programs are made possible with support from Cal Humanities in partnership with California Center for the Book.

The Friends of the Monterey Public Library will hold their Giant Mid-Year Book Sale on Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m - 5 p.m., in the Library Community Room.  Hundreds of gently used books will be available at bargain prices.  There will be a Friends Only Preview Sale on Friday, May 11, 3-5 p.m. Non-members can join at the door.  The Friends now accept credit cards.

The Monterey Pubic Library is now accepting submissions for the Second Annual Teen Art Show, open to all young artists ages 20-under. Apply between April 15 and  May 15, and submit your work for a possible spot on the Linda McCabe Memorial Teen Art Wall in the Library's TeenZone. The show will open on June 1 and run through October 1. 

Works for consideration should relate to the Teen Summer Reading theme Dream Big.  Example themes, recommended sizes, and complete rules are included in the application form at www.monterey.org/library/Teens.aspx
