The Monterey Public Library will celebrate National Gaming Day with a Games Fair on Saturday, November 12, from 1 - 4 p.m., in the Library Community Room.  Ages 8-up are invited to play a variety of new and old card, board, and video games and meet other game players. Find out what new games will be popular this holiday season and discover the educational and social benefits of playing games.  All experience levels welcome.  Lean new games from experts and bring your own games.

The Monterey Public Library Bookmobile will hold an open house on Saturday, November 12, from 1 - 3 p.m. at Hilltop Park.  All ages are invited to explore the Bookmobile, and at 1:30 p.m., to participate in a community dialogue and provide input and ideas about the Library's future.

The Monterey Public Library will celebrate the 161 "Unbirthday" of Robert Louis Stevenson with a talk by Dr. Roger Swearingen, "Did Robert Louis Stevenson Ever Meet Mark Twain? And Other Biographical Byways", on Tuesday, November 8, at 6:30 p.m., in the Library Community Room.  The talk will be followed by "unbirthday" cake courtesy of the Robert Louis Stevenson Club of Monterey.

The Monterey Public Library will present a Poetry Writing Workshop with Patrice Vecchione on Saturday, october 29, 2 - 3:30 p.m., in the Library Community Room.  The workshop includes writing exercises, inspiration, encouragement and feedback.  For adults and teens ages 14-up.  Admission is free, but pre-registration is required.  This event is supported by Poets & Writers, Inc., through a grant it has received from The James Irvine Foundation.

There will be several opportunities to participate.  The Library will be hosting two Community Dialogues on Saturday, October 8, the first from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and the second from  2 – 3:30 p.m, in the Library Community Room.  Additional meetings will be held in the Library on Monday, October 17, from 6 – 7:30 p.m., and on Monday, October 24, from 6 – 7:30 p.m.  You may also take a survey online by visiting the Library’s Web site at www.monterey.org/library or check the Web site for dates and times of other opportunities to take the survey in person.

The Monterey Public Library will provide free one-on-one assistance, on a drop-in basis, for Library customers who wish to learn how to download eBooks from the Northern California Digital Library to their Amazon®Kindle, on Wednesday, October 5, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, October 8, 12 noon – 2 p.m.; Friday, October 14, 1 – 3 p.m.; and Saturday, October 15, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
