Ebooks and Audiobooks to enjoy at home or on your portable device!

Need help? Monterey Public Library offers a monthly short presentation giving an overview of options called "Ebooks Demystified" along with one-on-one assistance via Ebook Help Appointments. Check our calendar or contact the Library Help Desk for more information. We also offer drop-in ebook and computer assistance every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. 

As a Monterey Public Library cardholder, you can access and borrow Electronic Books from a number of sources:

Northern California Digital Library (OverDrive) - Downloadable bestsellers, classics, fiction, and nonfiction.

The Overdrive Media Console (OMC) is the primary app for accessing ebooks and can be installed on most devices such as on desktops, laptops, phones as well as tablets. OMC can be downloaded for free from a variety of places:

Enki Electronic Books - Downloadable ebooks with an emphasis on independent publishers.


Open Library - An initiative of the Internet Archive, a non-profit organization building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form.

Project Gutenberg - Offers over 42,000 free ebooks: choose from among free epub books and free kindle books.

Especially for Kids:

TumbleBook Library - Ebooks for kids in English, French, and Spanish. Includes puzzles and games.

BookFlix - Watch a story then read the non-fiction book.
