Monterey Public Library's Storyteller's Studio will be open on Monday, June 6 7, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m..  This is a setting for serious storytellers to practice their craft, supported by peers.  Tell stories to share your family memories, your community memories, narrate local history, to illuminate your ideas without the need to perform for an audience.  Note:  This is a practice lab for the the oral tradition, not a writer's workshop.

An abridged version of Dan Brown's massive blockbuster, The Da Vinci Code will be released for the teen & tween market in September.  Read more. Or in this case, read less.  But, hey, it's a great book with some interesting ideas.  Personally, I'm a fan of Dan Brown's, and a big fan of teen reading.  So, this is good news.

Monterey Public Library, in partnership with Monterey’s Recreation Department, presents “Summer Reading: Read for the Win!” our annual program to encourage children to read during the summer and maintain the skills they learn during the school year. Children earn prizes for reading and receive free books and coupons to local businesses.

The Summer Reading Program opens with a Kickoff Party on Saturday, June 4, from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. on the Colton Hall lawn, with music, crafts, games and prizes.  Musical performances, puppet shows and other fun activities will continue through the end of the program in late July.

This program is for families with babies through children in 6th grade. The library also offers Summer Reading activities for teens and adults. Check the website for details about these programs and other library events.  All Summer Reading events are free.
