FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Monterey Public Library presents a lecture by Steven Levinson, Director of the Fort Ord Collections and Archives, about how the army uses various techniques to develop attitudes and values in soldiers during basic training, compared to the educational methods used by contemporary colleges in the United States. In both cases, the institution is attempting to develop attitudes that will lead to the soldier/student using the skills they are taught in way that the institution desires.

Mr. Levinson was a faculty member at CSUMonterey Bay for 20 years where he taught digital film, television, radio and Service Learning. He won a Quiet Hero of the Community Award from the Citizenship Project (Salinas, CA) for a series of radio PSAs about the issues among migrant farm workers in the Salinas Valley. He has been researching and collecting material about Fort Ord for 20 years and has lectured on Fort Ord to many history and sociology classes at CSUMB, local organizations, and at the Defense Manpower Data Center. His special interest is comparing the training methods of Fort Ord with contemporary college teaching.

No reservations are required. Amission is free.

Monterey Public Library is located at 625 Pacific Street, Monterey. For more information call (831) 646-2091 or visit henry@monterey.org
