FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Saturday, October 22, 1 - 2:30 p.m., the Friends of the Monterey Public Library and the MPL Endowment Committee present a screening of the documentary film, "By Light of Lanterns - An Untold History of Monterey's Chinese Fishermen", produced by the CSUMB Teledramatic Arts and Technology Department, followed by a talk by Gerry Low-Sabado.

Geraldine Low-Sabado is a direct descendent of the first Chinese fishermen in Monterey, and one of the few left in the immediate area who has a tie to these early immigrants.  Her mission is to learn more about the amazing contribution her family and other Chinese made in shaping the character of the Monterey Bay area, and to share this information with others.  Contact Gerry for more information about her research and work at RSaturday@aol.com.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Monterey Public Library and the MPL Endowment Committee, and is part of several Chinese Heritage events taking place over the weekend.

Adults are invited to attend.  Admission is free, but seating reservations are required.  For seating call 831.646.5632 or email thongchu@ci.monterey.ca.us   The Monterey Public Library is located at 625 Pacific Street, Monterey.  For more information visit www.monterey.org/library.
