This position must be available for weekends, holidays, evenings, nights and
at irregular hours. Must be willing to work alone, patrolling all areas of
garage facilities at all hours of both day and night, in all weather
conditions.

| Definition |
Under direction, to
control the parking of motor vehicles; collect parking fees; enforce parking
regulations; provide security; and to do related work as required. |
| Examples of Duties |
|
Duties may include, but are not limited
to, the following: Control the parking of motor vehicles on city
wharves, parking lots and in parking structures; collects parking fees;
operates computerized fee machines; counts and records revenues; may issue
citations for violations of parking regulations; maintains necessary
records; completes necessary reports; provides general assistance and
information to motorists and tourists; notifies the police department of
abandoned vehicles and law enforcement problems; may assist police with
traffic control; appears in court on challenged citations; performs minor
maintenance on automatic ticket issuing machines, barrier gates and fee
computers; patrols parking facilities on regular basis providing security to
users and facilities; may act as leadworker to other Parking Attendants as
assigned; perform parking surveys as assigned; monitors conditions and
supplies in restrooms, assist with litter cleaning in garage facilities; and
other related duties as required. |
| Requirements |
Any combination equivalent to experience
and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities
would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would
be:
Education and Experience:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school; experience
involving public contact and monetary transactions is desirable.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Basic arithmetic and simple calculations. Ability
to: Interpret local and state laws pertaining to parking regulations;
ability to deal courteously with the general public; ability to read and
understand departmental policies and rules, instructions and regulations;
ability to operate a three-wheel scooter safely and according to traffic
laws and established rules; ability to maintain accurate financial and work
records and to prepare reports; ability to learn minor maintenance of
parking control equipment; ability to stand or walk for extensive periods of
time; ability to use two-way radio. Computer experience is desired.
Additional Requirements:
Must possess a valid California Driver’s License. Must be willing to work
alone, patrolling all areas of garage facilities at all hours of both day
and night in all weather conditions. Must be available and willing to work
on weekends, holidays, evenings, nights and at irregular hours.

Compensation |
Scheduled Monthly Salary: $3,492 (step 1)
- $4,244 (step 5) as of July 1, 2008.
Deferred Compensation: City will match employee paid contributions to
a maximum of $50.00 per month.
Health Plan Spending Fund: A minimum of $548.29 per month up to
$1,084.00 per month dependent upon level of participation (or cash-in-lieu
of benefits) may be used to purchase medical benefits for the employee and
dependents through the PERS Health Plan Program, dependent dental,
additional life insurance, deferred dependent care, and/or health care
expenses not reimbursed by a medical carrier. Any unused portion of the
Health Plan Spending Fund per month is paid as taxable income.
Dental: Fully paid employee coverage.
Vision: Fully paid for employee and eligible dependents.
Life Insurance: $20,000 policy paid by the City, with an option to
purchase additional coverage up to $100,000.
Sick Leave: 12 days per year .
Holidays: 13 paid days annually plus 1 floating holiday.
Vacation: 1-5 years/10 days ; 6-10 years/15 days; 11-15 years/ 17
days; 15+ years/20 days; 20+ years/23 days.
Longevity Pay: Additional 5% pay upon completion of 20, 25, and 30
years of service.
Continuing Education Incentive Program: If you have a college degree,
you may qualify for 5% premium pay on base salary (for a Baccalaureate
degree) or 7.5% premium pay (for a Master’s degree) upon completion of
probation.
Tuition Reimbursement: $1,000 per fiscal year.
Retirement: PERS 2.7% at 55 highest year formula. Employee’s 8%
contribution to PERS is tax deferred. City participates in the Medicare
portion of Social Security only. |

- Candidate selected will serve up to one
(1) year probationary period.
- Candidates who pass the testing process
will be placed on an eligibility list. This list may be used to fill
additional positions (including subordinate positions) that become
available during the life of the list.
