July 4th Fireworks Display Cancelled
UPDATE: Feb. 17, 2009 - The Monterey City Council voted unanimously to cancel the 4th of July fireworks display for 2009 due to budget constraints and public safety concerns.

Deadline for parade entries has passed.
Parade applications are no longer being accepted.

Schedule of events:

10 a.m. Flag Raising Ceremony along Alvarado Street
10:15 a.m. Kick-Off Parade begins at Alvarado and Polk streets continues up Del Monte Avenue and down Calle Principal in Downtown Monterey
11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Lawn Party - Backyard Bar-B-Cue at Colton Hall Lawn
The Independence Celebration day includes live music, entertainment, carnival games, food booths, and endless fun for all ages!
Street Closures:

from 6:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. – Webster, Cass, Polk, Hartnell, Sargent Court and Dormody Court will be closed for parade set-up and staging
from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. – Alvarado St., Del Monte Ave. and Calle Principal streets will be closed for the parade
from 6:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. – Pacific St. will be closed for the lawn party
all day – The parking lot by Monterey Bay Kayaks/Monterey Bay Park will be closed all day for the Monterey Police and Fire Departments.

 Additional closures due to Moto GP Races at Laguna Seca Raceway:
"Race Nights on the Row" - from 2 p.m. to midnight, July 4th - Cannery Row between Drake and David; Hoffman, Prescott and David streets between Cannery Row and Wave St.

The fireworks show has been cancelled and personal fireworks are illegal.
Help cleanup the beach on the 5th of July!  9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Tips for a fun and safe 4th of July:

1. Follow ALL signs and detours.
2. Animals prohibited at all events (except guide/service dogs).
3. Fireworks of any type are prohibited in the City of Monterey. Possession, display or discharge is a misdemeanor punishable by fines starting at  $1,000.
