Food Scraps: Trash or Treasure?

Banana peels, coffee grounds and filters; potato skins, plant clippings and leaves: trash or treasure? By composting, individuals can turn these and other scraps into enriched topsoil. Composting is a fun and easy way to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill or to the sewage
treatment plant. It takes very little work, just collect food scraps and layer them in a container. Time and heat do the rest.
Get started and purchase a bin at our compost sale from
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 19 at City Hall, sponsored by the City and the Monterey Regional Waste Management District.
Or just stop by the exhibit area near Colton Hall to learn more.
