Larkin School Gains New Lease on Life

The former Larkin Elementary School is still a vibrant community asset even as it has transformed from an institute for children to one for military personnel, thanks to collaborative partnerships.
The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center & Presidio of Monterey (DLIFLC & POM), which leased Larkin and the former Monte Vista Elementary School last year, celebrated the completion of building renovations and improvements by inviting community members, City officials and school district personnel for a first-hand look. Individuals toured classrooms, multipurpose rooms and school grounds. The building upgrades included new paint, plumbing, carpeting and electrical wiring.
