Volunteer Lends Helping
Hand Wherever She Can
Marilyn Williams lends a hand wherever there’s a need – even
before she’s asked. “She is wonderful,” says Monterey Police Officer
Adam Costa. “She attended the first Citizen’s Police Academy, and at the
end she volunteered her services. Marilyn has been part of our family ever
since.” Marilyn volunteered even before the department had an
“official” volunteer program. Her services have become invaluable – that’s
why she was named this year’s Monterey Police Dept. Volunteer of the Year.
She helps with the Citizen’s Police Academy, bike rodeos, kid’s
fingerprinting, Fourth of July, shooting- range barbecues (see photo) and
in between events, she’s in the office filing and supporting staff .
“I really enjoy volunteering with the Police Department,” says
Marilyn. “It’s very interesting, and I get a real sense of fulfillment.
“By volunteering I help free up officers to do what they really need
to do out in the field. The involvement I have with other volunteers,
staff and officers is what keeps me going. It’s a real sense of family.”
