Annual Report 2004
Public Facilities

The needs of the community drive upgrades to City buildings and facilities as well as the
development of City-owned or leased land. Citizen input and participation is vital to the decision-making process.

Public Safety Gets Office Upgrades
The bathroom will no longer have to serve as both
a kitchen and copy room for police detectives. Much-needed, improved office space, in the form of portable buildings, is on the way for them and other members of our public safety team.
Once located in cramped, dilapidated wooden
bungalows that were not originally designed to serve
as offices or house our current number of employees,
the Fire Department Administration Office and Police Investigations will soon have new homes.
Two modular buildings are being installed behind
Fire Station No. 1, just off Madison Street in the back
portion of the City parking lot. To make up for the lost parking spaces, a temporary lot is being constructed along Van Buren Street, where several dilapidated structures were removed this summer.

For more info and updates on these and other City construction projects, call 646.3997 or visit www.monterey.org/construction.

Colton Hall Gets Fixed Up
Colton Hall’s stairs and porch are being repaired this fall, in an ongoing effort to maintain our historical structures and preserve our past.
The structural upgrades and repair work include installation of pre-cast concrete piers under the existing porch and removal and replacement of rotted lumber, porch decking, stair treads
and risers.
