Annual Report 2002
Social

The City’s communications tools, volunteer opportunities and projects geared to address the needs of youth and families help build and maintain a healthy community. Such programs offer ways to participate in the decision-making process, ensure that residents are informed about news and issues and provide the City with vital community input on many topics.

The City created a cross-department Youth Task Force to develop a plan for addressing the needs of children and young adults. This process includes working with and supporting outside
agencies and organizations. The Task Force has come up with a wide variety of ideas such as encouraging youth involvement in local government, e.g. the summer Volunteen program . The Monterey Public Library has also designed a “youth friendly” area called the Teen Zone with computers and materials especially for teens.
