Annual Report 2002
Housing

Housing affordability and availability are priority issues at the City. Many challenges exist throughout the county to address the needs of existing families and new residents. The City is committed to supporting programs that provide additional housing opportunities and to developing policies that address affordability and availability.

This year the City has dedicated a record $5.7 million specifically for housing issues. As a result, more people, time and efforts are committed to finding new and better ways to help residents who are dealing with the high cost of housing. Some new proposals are geared to supplement and emphasize the City’s current efforts to address the issue of affordable housing.

We plan to complete the review of, and implement changes to, our housing ordinance, which deals with including affordable housing units in new development projects. We are also looking to identify at least one major project, in collaboration with other agencies or key community businesses and organizations, which will address the need for housing for workers. The City will also work to retain and increase the supply of multi-family rental housing units.

Look for progress reports on these and other issues throughout the year.
