Annual Report

Goals Help Define City Work Program
It’s all about prioritizing, as we determine how best to manage our time, activities and resources.
Each fiscal year with your help, the City of Monterey sets priorities. These objectives help establish your City’s budget and guide our projects and work programs.
In this issue of City Focus, we outline some of our priority activities and provide you, our community members, with a status report. Inside this annual report, which is distributed each fall, we review last fiscal year’s (1999-00) activities and accomplishments and introduce you to the priority activities now underway in the current year. We also invite you to help shape our priorities for the coming year by filling out the enclosed Community Survey. Please take five minutes to fill it out and send it in by October 30.
Thank you for participating! Together with residents and business owners we are working to provide quality services that help make Monterey an even better place to live, work and visit.
We have placed the various goals and objectives into six categories. In most sections you will find an update on some of last year’s activities and highlights of the plans for this year. The categories are as follows:

  • Public Facilities - the buildings or land owned or leased by the City;
  • Historic Preservation - policies and programs regarding historical sites and activities;
  • Social - community outreach programs, workshops and volunteer opportunities;
  • Public Safety - the police and fire departments;
  • Economic - development of City-owned property as well as programs that enhance our community’s vitality; and
  • Land Use - issues about physical growth and development activities in the City.
We strive to gather your input, comments and concerns through many programs and activities – surveys, community forums, public hearings, suggestion lines. This material helps us shape and prioritize our projects. Many of the projects this year reflect your earlier comments.
We invite you to get to know more about your City and to get involved! Send us your comments or suggestions.

You Can Participate in the Annual Planning Process. Our next budget cycle is just around the corner, and we’re already looking to identify City priorities for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1.
