Recycling Hazardous Materials

The Monterey Fire Department has an active program in dealing with hazardous materials that may cause damage to the environment. Individuals who are caught illegally dumping hazardous materials, including used motor oil and filters, will be cited and issued a bill by the city for equipment and personnel responding. Individuals who are cited by law enforcement for causing an accident, which caused the spilling, or discharge of a hazardous material are responsible for the cleanup costs. All associated costs for the cleanup will be calculated into the bill, this includes administrative costs, and disposal charges to a State Depository licensed to store the waste.
