Chuck Della Sala was born in Monterey on Sept. 2, 1955, one of five
children of Charles Sr. and Monterey native Rose Marie (Bruno) Della
Sala. He was raised in the Del Monte Grove and Old Town
neighborhoods of Monterey and attended public schools, graduating
from Monterey High School in 1973. In 1977, he graduated from Santa
Clara University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Chuck is the
managing Realtor of his family’s business.
Mayor Della Sala was elected to the City Council in 2002 and
elected Mayor in 2006. Prior to his service on the Council, he
served on the City of Monterey Planning Commission for 10 years. He
is a past president of the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce
and served as president of Monterey PONY Baseball/Softball for five
years.
Mayor Della Sala serves as Monterey’s representative to the
Transportation Agency
for Monterey County (TAMC). With TAMC, he played a key role in
reducing traffic congestion at Highway 68 and Ragsdale Drive. He has
been an instrumental leader in
the beautification of Monterey through his advocacy of
Window-on-the-Bay Park. He
has personally contributed to the revitalization of downtown
Monterey as well as the rebuilding of Jacks Park where the Bronco
League World Series has been played since 1993.
Mayor Della Sala has learned the value of teamwork and consensus building
and has applied these qualities and skills in business, in community
service activities and in community governmental activities.
Mayor Della Sala and his wife, Sandy, have two adult children and
live in the Deer Flats neighborhood. He often says, “I make a living
as a businessman; I make my life by giving back to my hometown.”

Libby
was born in High Point, North Carolina on
March 17,
1938. Libby graduated in 1960
with a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the
University of
North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where
she was inducted into
Valkyries
(equivalent to
Mortor Board Honor Society). She married Wayne
Downey in
1962; has lived in Monterey since 1963.
They have three adult
children: Scott, Heath, and Paige. |

Jeff Haferman |

|
Jeff Haferman was born on July 19, 1964. Raised in Prior Lake,
Minnesota, he helped his parents with their business and graduated from
public high school in 1982 while serving as Student Council President.
Jeff earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in Math and Computer Science from the University of Chicago,
followed
by a Masters
and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the
University of Iowa in 1995. He was awarded a prestigious NASA Global
Change Fellowship from 1993-1995, and worked at NASA Goddard Space
Flight Center (Greenbelt, Maryland) in 1995-1996.
Jeff has a strong financial
background, having worked at The University of Chicago Office of
Information Systems Planning
(part of the Budget Office) and for
O'Conner and Associates at the Chicago Board of Trade (1986-1989).
Jeff and his wife Joyce have lived in Monterey since 1997. He
previously worked for the United States Navy at Fleet Numerical, and
currently works as the Technical Manager of High Performance Computing
at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey.
An active volunteer, Jeff
served as Vice-President of the Old Town Neighborhood Association from
1998 to 2002. He is a member of and volunteer for many local events and
organizations including the Old Monterey Preservation Society, Christmas
in the Adobes, First Night Monterey, Monterey Peninsula Sunrise Rotary,
and served on the Board of Directors of the State Theatre Preservation
Group. Jeff and his wife Joyce presently live in the historic Finch
House in the Old Town Neighborhood of Monterey. He was elected to a
four-year term on the City Council and began serving on Dec. 7,
2004.

Nancy
was elected to the Monterey City Council in Nov. of 2006. She is a
native Californian who has lived in Monterey for over 20 years. She
graduated from Sacramento State College and received her teaching
credential from Chapman University. A retired elementary school teacher,
Nancy is currently teaching remedial reading part time for the Monterey
Peninsula Unified School District.
A graduate of Leadership Monterey Peninsula, she has served on the
Colton Hall Museum/Cultural Arts Commission and was President of the
Monterey Vista Neighborhood Association.
In addition to volunteer work at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and with
First Night Monterey, Nancy has acted as Chairperson of Christmas in the
Adobes, the Adobe tour, and Bouquets to History and Art. She has served
on the Board of the Monterey History and Art Association and of QUOTA
International, an organization known for their service to the hearing
and speech impaired, and to disadvantaged women and children.
Nancy is a member of the American Association of University Women
and the League of Women Voters. She has four children and four
grandchildren.

Frank Sollecito |

Frank
was born in Monterey on Jan. 20, 1949, one of five children of Frank and
Beverly Sollecito. Frank and his wife of 39 years Sannie (Solis)
Sollecito live in the Monte Vista area of Monterey where they raised two
sons Frank Jr. and Gabe. Gabe lives in Spreckels with his wife Wendy (Efird)
Sollecito and their two daughters Marley and Taylor. Frank Jr. passed
away in Oct. of 1990 after waging a courageous 2˝ year battle against
leukemia.
Frank was raised in the Oak Knoll Neighborhood and attended Del
Monte Elementary School, Walter Colton Jr. High School, Monterey
High School and Monterey Peninsula College.
Frank played football at both Monterey High School and Monterey Peninsula College. He was a stand out
player and as a high school senior was named to the 1967 Northern
California All-Star Football squad. His Northern California team was
coached by former Monterey Mayor Dan Albert. The California All Star
game was played at the Los Angeles Coliseum and the underdog North team
won. Frank contributed greatly to the upset of the Southern California
team with several key pass receptions.
He joined the Monterey Police Department in 1972, retiring in 2004
at the rank of Sergeant after 32 years of service.
Frank has been involved in several different kinds of businesses,
while staying active with local youth activities and charities.
