Rental Inventory Program Shifts to Enforcement in May

The City’s Rental Inventory program officially launched in January, and it is off to a promising start. As of mid-April, more than 4,330 residential rental units have been registered, roughly 970 of which have been registered as claiming the rental inventory exemption. Based on Housing Office estimates of 7,800 rental units in the City, the number of registered units indicates an overall compliance rate of over 55%, exceeding the first-year compliance rates of several other California cities with similar programs. Additional units continue to be submitted daily, and every major property management company operating in the City of Monterey has participated to some extent. The City has held weekly workshops in the library from February 8 through April 18 to assist property owners and managers in registering their rental units. FULL NEWS RELEASE IN PDF
